About this deal

The Story-Makers Show was known as Puffin Virtually Live up until March 2019. The content and ambition of the show remains the same: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage with authors and illustrators in their own classroom using the power of the internet. My grandparents are the best. They run whale-watching tours and have an animal sanctuary behind their house. Another thing, culturally speaking, is encourage your children. From a very personal place I say encourage your children, indulge them as well. Indulge their creativity. Guide them. I would advise any child trying to get into this from an illustration perspective to draw the world around you. The one key thing I have to say: it does not have to look good. It doesn't have to look like a work of art but it has to be something you understand when you look at it yourself. As you get better at it, more and more people will be able to understand it and you’ll be able to translate the world around you in a more efficient way. When it comes to story and stuff, we’ll bat that around together. I want to make sure that I’m telling a story that he’s interested in and he’s inspired by, and then I would just say that, I am very new - when I first came into this game, I wrote for different kids' TV shows but the picture book realm was very new for me and it was very collaborative and I was learning off Daps. It was just like we were trying to make it right, together, I think.

This wonderful book can be used across all the Primary years for storytime, PSHE lessons or specific days such as Earth Day.When a book is stored in a room with a fireplace or if there is a small fire, it can be damaged by smoke and soot. After dusting completely, use a vulcanized rubber sponge, sold as a soot sponge, to remove the soot from the book. Truly, I loved both sets of grandparents. But they weren't cool to this degree or, more precisely, were cool in a way that a child could recognize." This book grabbed our attention straight away with the bright colourful front cover and snappy title. It was also a great starting point for discussion wondering why the girl was surfing through the rubbish, what danger the turtle was in and what we thought the book might be about.

Clean Up by Nathan Bryon and Dapo Adeola - Whole - Twinkl

Published by Puffin Books, this is a heart-warming, timely and empowering picture book, showing how we ALL can make a difference. This was the first time that this was a 50:50 co-created project… The door’s open for us to be hands on with each other’s contributions to the book. That helps to make it a more cohesive book in that respect. There’s no clear distinction between where I start and where Nathan starts - it fuses together really wonderfully. This book is truly wonderful with a lovely message. The illustrations are excellent and engaging. Perfect for reading to young children to show them not only that they can make a difference but the importance of looking after the world around them. When the book is dry (it usually takes at least a week), it's ready to be cleaned using these steps:

Again, use a dry vulcanized rubber sponge (soot sponge) to clean away the spotty mildew spores. As the mildew is transferred to the sponge, move to a clean area or a new piece of sponge. Nathan: For writing I would say, I like to try and lead with a character so think of your lead character. Think of some flaws for that lead character. So that character might be really good at this and that but what is the character bad at? Think about what does the character want in the world and what’s stopping that character from getting it? Whatever’s stopping that character from getting is generally the story that you're going to tell and that character might get it in the end or might not, but that’s part of it. Such a great fun book for having some really good discussions and making some really good changes. The story is written in a fun way and the illustrations are lively and really add to the story with brilliant facial expressions, and an insight into Jamaican culture. We loved the variety of activities and the mix of art, writing, science and geography and learning about a really important subject in a fun way. From climate change to animal conservation, these picture books, poetry collections, novels and graphic novels will encourage children and young people to think about and discuss pressing issues about the environment. The book was released in June 2019, and has garnered plenty of accolades and cult fans, with the momentum never slowing - in fact, debut children's book author Nathan Bryon and illustrator Dapo Adeola are still getting comments from fans as if it was only published last month.Dapo: One of the first things that we were keen on doing was taking her abroad in this book. It's not a specific Caribbean island. What I ended up doing was drawing references from different islands that I’ve come across visually and asking friends of mine to send pictures of their islands so that I could find little bits and pieces to take and put into this second book... it's what an island in the Caribbean would look like and the problems that several islands in the Caribbean have at the moment with pollution.

a session plan for which the text has been split into manageable sections. The session plan includes: Dapo: It was a fascinating thing because what I do normally, up until that point - it doesn’t involve collaboration. What I was used to doing was doing commission work for people. I would come in almost as a pencil for hire, draw something and then leave basically. By the end, I'm absolutely loving this book. Especially the message of environmental awareness, and particularly the idea of asking folks who come to the ocean to stop dumping their trash, their plastic, their soda cans, etc. Ladybird, Puffin and Penguin are imprints of Penguin Random House UK. Across their extensive list, we believe there is a story for every child, everywhere.Interwoven facts and an inspirational surfing grandma add up to a picture book with a lovely balance of urgency, humour and heart." - The Guardian Read more Details
