The overriding success factor in quitting is how determined you are. The first few weeks of quitting or reducing the number of cigarettes you smoke will probably be the most difficult because your smoking ritual is still fresh in your mind. Certain symptoms such as dizziness, headache and sleep disturbances may be related to withdrawal symptoms in connection with smoking cessation and may be due to insufficient administration of nicotine. Cold sores may develop in connection with smoking cessation, but any relation with the nicotine treatment is unclear. Early features of ingestion include burning in the mouth and throat, nausea, vomiting, confusion, dizziness, weakness, hypersalivation, sweating and increased bronchial secretions. There may be sympathetic features including tachycardia, tachypnoea, hypertension and agitation followed by bradycardia, systemic hypotension and respiratory depression.
